What is  FSSAI ?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

What is FSSAI Food License ?

PFA, 1954 and allied Orders are now repealed and New Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006 enacted. Rules thereof came into force on 5th Aug 2015 called FSS Rules, 2011.

FSSAI License Applicable to:

As per new FSSA Rules, 2011 all existing and new Food Business Operators(FBO) has to mandatory convert their existing PFA, FPO,MMPO Licenses to new FSSA License. It is mandatory to obtain FSSAI License before starting of any Food Business.

What is FSSAI Central License ?

An FSSAI Central license is issued by any of the central governments to those operating food businesses within an Indian state need a central license that is also based on capacity or turnover. Within a bracket of annual turnover income, the food businesses have to apply for an FSSAI CENTRAL License.Food Business those annual turnovers are Rs 20 crores or more has to go for the central license.

Eligible food Business Operators for FSSAI Central License:-

Importers, 100 EoUs, Manufacturers, Operators in central government, Agencies, Airports, Seaports, etc.

FBO's can apply for an FSSAI Central License from FSSAI License Central Consultant in their particular region.

For eg :- Company"Foodly" is an FBO and It is the manufacturer. Foodly's annual turnovers are over 20 crores and  it is operating its business in Mumbai Region. Then Foodly has to apply FSSAI Central License for the Mumbai region. Foodly can apply for License from the website of FSSAI or can apply for it through FSSAI License Central Consultant in Mumbai Region.
